How should I set a date attribute?

In the platform you can have an attribute of type 'Date' where you can filter by using date range for it. 

To have such an attribute send it as a string in the format of 'YYYY-MM-DD' and once you set it, set the attribute as 'Date' type going into settings -> enabled attributes and do it for the desired attribute like in that following photo
